Hi-lift jacks

Hi hi-lifts are ok the extreme is a bit more rugged than the allcast. but their really isn't enough in it to make a difference I think the all-cast is lighter IIRC. Alternative is to buy a Jackall.
 
I got one of those and have had to replace all the bolts and some of the pins They're cheap chinese jacks I'd go for the Hilifts or Jackall (got a jackall off ebay to replace mine)

That crap about the lifting gear been different to the 4' jacks is absolute bollix,
 
I guess yer gets what yer pays fer - and with Haddocks the delivery's free too (coz i need a coupla other bits to take it up ter £50) - but they only do the hi-lift, so that looks favorite! (Can't find a jackall to compare at similar cost)

Ebay ain't got anything remotely as good value on at the mo other than that imported generic stuff so i think it'll be the 5ft bog tandard hi-lift (unless anyone has any better suggestions??!)

On the log book mine goes 2700kg! I know you won't be lifting the entire weight on one jack, but I just thought I'd mention it!

So what would you use this for? To change your wheel? How would I change my wheel if I didn't have one of these? Something I've never considered!

With a bottle jack???

On the subject of jacking up wiv an hi-lift it is vitally important that you do the following.

Chock the wheels at the opposite end of the vehicle both in front and behind the wheel.

Carry a spreader plate to put on the floor so the jack doesn't sink on soft ground. an 18" square of 18mm or 24mm Ply is good for this you can fit brackets to it to stop the base sliding if you want.

Engage Difflock and 1st low.

Engage Handbrake.

If you don't the vehicle will slew round and throw the jack. If you've got a wheel off at the time you could end up seriously injuring yourself.

Don't let anyone wander near the jack.

Don't let go of the handle whilst jacking it up and keep the handle in the upright position when ever possible.

When switching from raising to lowering keep your hands clear and check that both pins are fully engaged in the ladder rail. or they can drop straight to the floor.

And finally an Hi-lift jack is a great piece of kit But the fooker will try to kill you if you give it the chance. :eek:
 
thanks for that pikey, i never knew :D just get a 48" hi-lift, you dont need the 60. i use mine for everything, but will admit that a bottle jack in the garage is better! you can use hi-lifts for all sorts when your out though. ive used mine to jack my landy out of ruts, sort of crab stepping it out and over. you can winch with them. weve used it to lift fallen trees to cut them and move them off tracks... aw yer and you can also change wheels with them :D

handy bit o kit to have with you in the field.

Yep I turned the td round 90 degrees the other day so I could move it to a new parking spot without having to push it out onto the road and then have to perform a 3 point turn with no brakes,

Don't forget yer can winch with em as well.
 
Fanx griff all those have fallen into blank spots, so really useful. Actually there's a route there from North Wales down to shropshire and possibly even as far as devon.
 
Its worth getting the adapter that goes into the jacking holes , makes it a lot safer less likely to slide over (thats if you got em front and rear JMHO:)
 
Aye I noticed and I've got routes both sides of them as well. If yer want any I've got quiet a few. on me pooter.

And before anyone whos only bin on here a week, asks no yer fooking can't
