Hi I have owned a 1959 series 2 for 20 years and it has been in my family since the 1960's.

I have been recently replacing various parts to improve the running including points, plugs and leads, condenser, coil, fuel pump and had the Solex 40PA carb fully reconditioned. A problem that persists however is that when hot, the engine loosses power and won't rev. On cold start-up it will rev ok. I had thought that it was a carb fuelling problem and before having the Solex overhauled I checked that the main jets were clear and could find no problem, so thought that it was probably overdue for an overhaul. Problem not solved however.

I wonder if the following factors are influencing things.

For some time I have had a blow from the manifold to exhaust pipe connection, which is now only slight, but I am suspicious of a blow from elsewhere - perhaps beneath the manifold. Could this drastically effect performance and worsen as the engine gets hot ? I use the Landy for field work and when hard worked and very hot it has for years cut out and refused to start until rested a while and presumably cooled down. I have assumed that that was due to fuel vaporisation. Interestingly, when I took off the carb and sent it off to have reconditioned it had an additional aly mounting block between it and the hard plastic heat block, shaped identically to the base of the carb and not looking like anything home made. Curiously I have been told by one carb reconditioning outfit that this is not an original item and sounded like someone's modification ! It was lost in transit ( by My Hermes ) anyway so I did not have it to fit and mounted the carb with paper gaskets directly onto the heat block.

Now at a loss to know what to look at next and any advice from fellow members would be very gratefully received.
