hi, my wife drove our 53 plate disco 2, td5 103,000 mls on clock, home, parked up as normal. We went to go out 20mins later, nothing turning over and the dreaded s & m lights were on.
Checked selector was in park, shuttled the door locks several times and alarm is activating as normal.
Locked and unlocked the drivers door with the key.
Metered battery which was showing 12.7v, removed and charged, replaced back on vehicle, still nothing, metered and although the lights not dimming dropping to 12.3 on key turn so bought a new one (karching)
New one fitted showing 14.7v, still nothing
Put wipers on, selected reverse, bleeper and rear wipe come on suggesting selector xyz still in-line.
Slight oil in ecu plug but loom replaced about year ago (7000mls)
used fault code finder but no codes found........
Before I jump to replacing xyz am I missing anything.
Thanks in advance

Would suggest you post in discovery forum to get a better response.
However, a few things to bear in mind and check first before you touch the xyz switch.
The P and N create an EARTH path through the xyz switch and NOT a positive feed and a failure of this earth path will stop the ignition system just like trying to start the car in D.
With the ignition turned on, when PRND321 are selected do the lights by the gear selector show and does the corresponding symbol appear by the odometer in the instrument pack.
I would check out the earth path to the xyz switch before touching the switch as a new one is very expensive.

Cheers Roy,
I’ve changed the battery and put code reader on again and although no fault codes shown I cleared them, no s&m lights now. Still not starting/turning over but I think the solenoids gone so that’s my next stop.
Thanks for your help, and I’ve defeated the s&m red herring
