Welcome to LZ. :)

Not really a good time to look for that kind of thing. Defenders are way overpriced for what they are anyway, and the rougher ones have been in great demand for lockdown projects.

There are still a few about, but expect to pay the best part of 5 grand, even for something pretty rough. Also, do not underestimate the amount of work in such a project. You will need reasonable skills, including the ability and equipment to weld, somewhere level to work, and an occasional assistant.

Personally, I would be more tempted to look at a Series, or a Disco 1. Try LRO classifieds or online, Land Rover Clubs, or even the For Sale section on LZ.

Hi and welcome!

Check out FB marketplace. eBay tends to be somewhat overpriced for projects in my experience, unless you find one for sale on a classified listing. But you’ll be lucky to get one cheap. What is your budget?

Welcome.
As above , you'll be lucky. Any rolling Defender no matter how crappy is silly money.
Just out of curiousity, what is it with teenagers thinking Defenders are cheap? Is it because they are old and look rough? Or have there been tales from parents/grandparents on how LandRovers were dirt cheap in their day and great for not worrying about?
Truth is Defenders are silly money for all conditions, crap upwards. They are stolen at a high%, cost of securing your Defender will not be cheap. Which leads to insurance prices, teenagers will pay thousands in insurance, and I mean thousands more, than the silly insurance prices for little Corsas , etc.

Look through the project fred section on ere to get an idea of how much work is needed to rebuild a tratter after it's been eaten by rust worn.
