I'm Keith from Cape Town, South Africa and i'm new to this forum. I drive a defender 130 with an Isuzu 3.0 engine conversion (ex Td5). Started off with series III's, then Disco now Defender. my 9th Landy and my favourite. Looking forward to chatting with like minded folks about everything and anything Land Rover. Have a great day. Cheers

Welcome Aboard :) - Interesting conversion - got any piccies, we likes piccies!

How come the TD5 got "removed" ;):D - electronics, or oil pump bolt  ? :)

Hi Disco 1 BFG. I have pics on a memory stick somewhere but to find them is another story. The reason I removed the Td5 was because of a cracked cylinder head. I have little faith in electronics when i'm out travelling off the beaten track when there's water and dust involved. The isuzu also had the electronic diesel injector pump but I removed that and fitted a mechanical pump. Now the only electrical feed to the engine is one live wire to the diesel cut off solenoid. I also swapped the Defender tranfer case (1.4 ratio) for the Disco one (1.2 ratio) which has improved the open road cruising by making the vehicle quieter and faster. Not that I travel faster than 120km/h but I have access to longer legs when I need to pass someone. Somehow those words 'pass someone' doesn't sound believable when you are talking about a Defender. Mechanically i'm very happy with the vehicle and i'm now busy with the bodywork. Firewall replaced with a galvanized unit for starters and next i'll be tackling the doors as the frames are showing signs of corrosion. The thing rattles, squeaks and you get sopping wet inside when it rains but I love it and it's well used. As all Defenders should be.

Hi! I drive an auto D1 for medical reasons, but, like you, have something of an intolerance for electronics due severe reliability issues. Where we live, high in the Pennines, it's often damp, and this doesn't seem to mix well with electronics . So, my D1 had EDC when I bought it, but it soon got chucked in the bin, and a mechanical pump fitted - plus a larger intercooler and a pump tune, its now up at 145HP - so quite nice to drive.

The disco transfer box is a good retrofit into a deafener, and certainly gives them longer legs .
Sounds like you need some new seals here and there - sopping wet when it rains doesn't really have much appeal for me;):D
