When i was a kid in 1963 my dad ordered a brand new standard soft top 88 series 2a to use on our sheep farm as well as hunting /fishing trips and adventures,it wasn't long before a hard top and smiths heater and side step for mum was also imported.I restored it back to its former glory in 1992 ,the hardest part was learning how to shrink and metal finish the aluminium body panels, definitely an art ,it has been used daily for most of its 222200 miles and am still running the 21/4 with a few mods for economy ,i fitted a fairley overdrive and series3 v8 brakes in the mid eighties when I was doing allot of highway driving servicing Natrual Gas compressing stations.Rover has recently gone through another old age crisis at the horse paddock when my partner was driving ,breaking its first axle and taking out the carrier ,still have some trouble with carrier wear, rear springs couldn't handle another resetting so new springs have been fitted ,I have a bad back so thought I would go for a softer ride by fitting parabolic-springs ,great ride comfort but did notice that the 2nd spring has permanently deformed a little by the diff on the drivers side more than the passengers! hopefully its not a tempering issue , the UJays didn't like the new running position ,they soon let me know [30 mls ] I notice that at 50-60 mph if i back the throttle on and off rapidly they make a hell of a racket ,possibly aided by some diff wrap ,so am putting caster shims under the springs to get my new universal joints parallel under normal running conditions and will be shortening the driveshaft to stop the spline from almost bottoming out, luckily I was given a new spline set recently to replace the aging original ,check straps also look to be essential with the greater articulation off road. I am not sure that departing from original springs was a great idea!! cheers.
