Hi, new member from Fife, Scotland.

I am just about to start contracting and so been thinking of buying a van of some description rather than using my car (Octavia vRS TDi).

Seen a 04 2004 Freelander Commercial for £6k + Vat with a tad under 13,000 miles (yes 13 thou) on it. Full LR SH every year since new, ex company car (id like the previous drivers job if it only entails 4k a year!)

Had a drive, seems OK, no oil leaks, no damage from off road excursions underneath, seems a really tidy motor.

Will be used (hopefully) for light off road work on forestry type tracks, nothing really heavy.

If I do get the Van I will post pics etc.

Any comments on the price etc, at that miles I guess there shouldnt be too much to look for but what should a non-mechanic like me look for on a second test drive?

Am quite an active member on the Skoda forum and hope to be so here too.

Make sure it's The TD4 (Diesel) version. If it's petrol, best to leave well alone.

Yes, its the TD4 with manual box, sorry should of said in original post, assuming its the only engine choice in the "van" but of course it isnt is it.

The commercial Im looking at has near perfect bodywork other than the drivers door seems to of dropped, although only a fraction, I assume this is common as its a 3 door and bigger, heavier doors. Any fix?

Talking of the petrol, a colleuge bought an S reg 1.8L for £2k 18 months ago. It had 65k on it when he had it, now 118K with no bother other than a new radiator! Its in mint condition too.

Thats me bought the above mentioned "van", should get it on Tuesday if I can get a lift to collect it as its 40 mile away!

Had another check of it today, all the electrics work, starts well, no oil leaks or signs of oil where it shouldnt be, oil is still clean from service in March.

Only damage to bodywork is a small scratch on the rear bumper but not bothered about that, it will get a lot worse in the next few years of use.

As mentioned before is good condition inside, seen the full SH from the leasing company including a recovery (call out) charge and then a invoice for a new battery the next day, probably cos it wasnt used that often!

Will let you know how I get on next week after I have it.

It just goes to show, there's always an exeption to the rule. Good luck with your TD4, I'm sure you'll love it.
