Hi all,
new to the landyzone here. I am having problems with the lights on my 2003 defender td5... the main switch lets the side lights come on ok (pretty sure i don't see any dim light from either of the main light units when i do this) but when i switch to dipped beams they dont turn on. If I use the other switch to flash or turn on the main beams this works ok. I read that the dim/dip relay can be a problem. Any idea how I tell whether it is the relay or the switch ? If it is the switch, is it easy to replace (i read you have to take the wheel off?). The switch went about 2 years ago and a garage replaced it. I guess I'll need either a new relay or a new switch... is there any way to do a temporary fix that allows me to use the dipped beam? (need to drive it tomorrow evening before i will get any parts!)

Thanks for the help!
Stu

Don't guess.
It good be something as simple as both dip beam filaments are blown.
First thing to check is power at the bulb connector using a multimeter or a simple test bulb .

Thanks doriz and flossie. So glad i have a multi meter.... I checked and no volts were getting to the headlamp unit so the problem must have been switch, relay or wiring. Following advice I found online i was able to trace the fault to the dim dip relay. I took the relay out and connected socket 2 to socket 8 directly with a piece of wire. This fixed the problem! :) I reckon i can drive around like that for a while until I get round to ordering a replacement relay, or something else breaks!
