Hi all - I have just bought the wife a 2002 facelift disco, I am slowly working my way through what now seems some very common faults. Such as leaking windscreen etc. Fitted reverse sensors at the weekend and these work great. Now for my first problem I need help with. The disco is fitted with the original radio cassette with cd under the drivers seat. Cd ejects so I no it has power, but the cd does not display on the radio when I press mode button on radio or steering wheel controls!. I have bought a second hand radio of the same exact model to keep wiring simple in the hope its the radio that's knackered. I can get the radio out easy using an allen key, but can not figure how to get the wiring off the back of the radio even when I slide the black fixing wiring bracket up as shown on the radio sticker. Hope this makes sense and some of you guys out there can help.

cheers

Hi yep first mistake you bought a disco. Glad ive spent two day rebuilding suspension and complete swivels etc on a landrover 110.
Im sure there will be an expert on here but you should have two pronged things (radio extractor) or use thick wire totalling two bits, two pieces of coat hanger bent to U shape (fork handles) once the radios out, then all the ones i've done have the Landrover harness follow this back and undo the connector blocks its that easy although maybe fiddly. I have exactly the same problem with a Alpine CD played brand new when I take a call (obviously not driving of course) after the call if the phones wired in it locks up the phone and nowt happens when you press the button, apparently its goosed, the fix is to just use the bluetooth on mine. Also had genuine landrover on like that and chucked it it was G............... and F...................lipping broken.
Radio or the Controls landrover controls are not good and expensive even from Sh...parts.
Well im looking forward to working all night so take care

Hi just had a look around have a search on the net and put in specific radio type as there are manuals and all sorts of data on blue tooth and MP3 player etc, (great when the kit works) set ups and kit not working and im not assuming that you have such a device but there lodsa help ooot there.
Oh you could always try electrical tester on all the wiring as there may be loadsa faults, belt and braces!!

Hi Scotress Thanks for the very useful replies, I will get the torch out and go and have another go. You were right about the Landrover I thought my car fiddling days were long gone especially as I own a Navara to date it has been bulletproof O'WELL the wife luvs the disco. Cheers again and all the best

You'll be glad of the disco when the weather turns. Lol

Sounds like some form of break in connection somewhere. I should check the out going between cd player and head unit. Heard of people kicking them under the seat and jogging the lead.

Hi, you could be right, have just replaced the radio and still have the same fault / no cd player recognised. Have looked under the seat and at the moment I can only see one round shape multi adapter, when I pull it apart the power stops to the cd player there appears to be a out 5/6 cables in this adapter. It was very wet however so this could be the problem. Will check further at the weekend.

Cheers for the help

Ahhhh. I should get it out n make sure player is dry!

Can alwayc run a new lead from player to head unit or relocate to the glove box. May have a leaky point near where currently is.
