Hi all had my Discovery since the summer and enjoying it most of the time!

On average it seems there is one job a week to keep (Roger) my 2003 Discovery 2 TD5 on the road...

Three weeks ago it was time to fit a new battery for the winter, made up a plug and lead with a temporary 12v battery to go in the cigar lighter to stop the ECU loosing its program. This worked fine and saves a lot of problems resetting things afterwards.

Two weeks ago it was the alternator that failed, what a job that was to get it out and a new one in. Took the best part of five hours to wriggle it out and put it back together again.

Last week the fuel pump failed and I spent Sunday trying to diagnose the problem of poor starting and rough running, after checking all the sensors under the hood until I found the fuel pump had failed open circuit. Replaced the pump, not a bad job just had to modify the rear carpet a bit to make access possible.

This weekend it was the front headlight bulb and one of the rear number plate bulbs needed replacing.

So I wonder what this weekend will bring forth that Roger need my attention with, I will keep you updated!

Great forum, best regards to all.

Chris

Hi,

Welcome to the loonyzone.

Why did you need to make a lead to keep the ECU from losing its memory?

Make sure you know your EKA code.

Cheers

Hi

Thanks

I was concerned the radio, clock, immobiliser / alarm and other electrical equipment I have fitted would loose codes and settings so didn't want to have to reset things. Back feeding it through the cigar lighter is easier than trying to clip jump leads on to the barttery cables when you are removing them from the battery. The cigar plug has a 5A fuse in it so if you do short the battery lead to earth the worst that happens is the fuse goes. Must remember though to leave the ignition on otherwise all the work is in vain!

I contacted the LR dealer here in Reading and they gave me the EKA code over the phone so that is ok. Mind you I suspect it would be fun trying to input some of the long numbers using the key turns!

Cheers
