Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a 4x4 over the next couple of months, no real rush, but have already started looking around now.
I've had a look at quite a few different types of 4x4 and have almost decided it will be a Land Rover of some sort. I like the Discovery and also the Freelander.
Main use of the vehicle is just to and from work (across Cotswolds), 60+ miles a day and there will also be quite a lot of motorway miles. Ideally whatever I get has to be reliable (18k miles a year) and very safe (young family).
I have at max about 5k to spend (less is always nice) and so far on the possible shopping list is Freelander TD4, Discovery 300TDi or TD5.
Question is how reliable are they, how cheap to fix (I know, depends on what goes wrong) and what problems do they tend to suffer from?
Also, most of the ones I've seen tend to be high miles 80k+ for the TD4's and 98-150k for the Discos. Is mileage an issue or is condition more important?
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
