Hi,

Been lurking, thought I'd join the community.

Got a 1999 Disco 2 TD5 Auto (Epsom Green - LR's have to be green, right? ;) ).

Had it about 4 years now. Love it!

Very few problems so far...main ones being:
1) Serpentine belt idler collapsed
2) Crankshaft pulley de-laminated - made a nice rattling noise when turned off
3) Rear sunroof leaks

Other than that, until Monday...

The coolant header tank split and the pressure cap came apart when I tried to top it up...

Parts on order.

Hope I can be of use on the forum - I'm not new to LR's, Previous ones:

1964 SIIA, rebuilt and then converted to V8 (Sold)
1986 Range Rover V8 auto (Killed it hitting a tree)
1994 Range Rover 300TDi manual soft dash (Died of body corrosion :( )

Cheers,

Whoa!
There was no overheating or anything - It's been fine, it was just a regular fluid level check when I noticed the level was lower than it should be. I then noticed that the header tank seam was opening up. It is nearly 18 years old, after all. I'm not really surprised that a plastic tank, subjected to thermal and pressure cycling constantly for that period of time has got a bit 'tired'!

What's the deal with auto ownership? The XYZ switch has been changed (and a I have a spare if it does decide to sulk).

Please enlighten me???

well.... my 2001 D2 auto (epsom green) is sitting on the drive awaiting its 3rd replacement gearbox, when i can afford it, and my 'new' 2002' D2 ES auto has just had a replacement torque converter which i'm still not sure is right as its making a growling noise at 2000rpm. even though it had a brand new gearbox fitted by land rover, 35,000 miles ago...
maybe you're one of the lucky ones...

i'm sure it'll be fine...

Well,
Despite your best efforts to give me a coronary with your tales of woe (although Bobdogs does make me twitch a bit )

I got the cooling system parts and everything is now good. Until the next thing... ;)

Cheers,
Ultraweasel.

PS - No 'popping of weasels', yet.
