Hi everyone, just wanted to do a quick intorduction of myself here.

I reside in dubai and spend most of summers in london and just recently graduated from uni in the UK.

My father and I are long time car fanatics. Just to mention a few cars that we own.

2008 Audi S8
2008 Mercedes Benz G 55
2007 Mercedes Benz S 600
2007 Audi Q7
2007 Volkswagen Touraeg
2006 Mercedes Benz CLS 350
2006 Lexus LX 470
2006 Range Rover Supercharged
2006 Porsche Cayenne S
2004 BMW X5 4.8IS
2004 Mercedes Benz C 320
2004 BMW 745LI
1984 Mercedes Benz 500 SL
1974 Mercedes Benz 450 SEL 6.9

Anyhow I recently put a deposit down for a 2008 Land Rover Defender 110 in Stornoway Grey. I need to convince myself is this car suitable for everyday city driving through congestion since its a 6 speed manual.

Blimey! Quite a garage you got there - are you the sultan? Defender 110 highly UNSUITABLE for city driving, no convincing needed!!!

odenne lmao! Nah no sultan or some posh title before my name just ordinary human being.

Is there any reason why it is not suitable for city driving? Anything to do with its 6 speed manual? or lack of power?

It's a great off road vehicle, very stiff suspension, poor turning circle, (especially the 110), thirsty (although that obviously isn't a problem!), very heavy, lacking in power but loads of torque (although i expect you'll get a petrol V8 one?), not particularly comfortable. It is meant for going anywhere - unlike your Q7, which is clearly meant only for going on the road else bits fall off it and it slides about.

Keep the S8 (stunning car, best on your list!) for driving round town, and take the landy off into the dunes!

One advantage of driving a Defender in the city is no-one, but no-one cuts you off, drives too close, stops you from pulling across traffic... it's amazing how courteous people are when you sit 3 feet above their roof line and have no crumple zones in front of or behind the chassis rails :D

to be honest i think if you have a garage like that, yet choose the defender as your everyday car....that is the classiest thing in the world! best choice you could make!

Id say get one to play in the desert, and stick to the Range Rover for your town driving....**** you got some motors there...
Oh and Welcome from Spain...
D

Cheers mate! Tatooboo RR Supercharged is a great car, couple of weeks back took it rock climbing and the power was outstanding. Defender has been my dream since the early 90's. :D

Odenne, mate as i said before my parents and I drive all the cars. But I ain't a showoff, I drive my '04 C 320 to and from work. On the weekend and pick and choose what I want to drive offcourse with the permission of my parents.

Yes like you said it the defender can go anywhere. Unfortunately I am getting the 2008 Defender with the diesel engine. I aint going pay some silly amount to do a engine swap. If I need power I will take the G 55 AMG. Anyhow I did abit of off-roading with the Q7, bad car off road but the Cayenne S, Touraeg & RR Supercharged were fantastic they held on pretty well.

S8 is dads weekend car, its a fabulous car no doubt. But G 55 for me:D Cheers mate.

Adz cheers. Lmao yes that is one huge advantage. Everyone lets you, its the same for the MB G 55 AMG. You feel like a king in the car :p

Chris, lmao! With the blessing of my parents I get up to a garage like this every morning. They are all my parents cars, I drive a '04 MB C320 to and from work. Weekend i can pick and choose offcourse with the permission of my parents. Me and my dads 2 dream cars are the Mercedes Benz G 55 AMG & Land Rover Defender. We bought the MB G 55 AMG last year, mate you can never go wrong with that car. Now to complete it all, the defender has to be in my garage too. I took my dad down the landie showroom, they do not have a car on the showroom floor. He saw the pictures in the brochure, fell in love. I put the deposit down. :D

Cheers mate.
