Has anyone on this NG installed a HF radio in a Disco S1? Did you come
across any problems?

Hi,

I fitted a 29MH to mine, the hardest part was finding a decent place to
mount it and the antenna, here is my solution after many other attempts

It has caused no interferance problems to the car electrics.

Pretty straight forward. Easy to get power cables in from engine bay
etc.

I made a small ali mount that poked out just above the head lamp for the
antenna. It was not my intention to use HF mobile though.

On the Rangie the aerial was the problem. On a saloon I
used a bumper mount but the bodywork is vertical all
round on my Rangie and a Disco must be worse. The loading
is peaky as can be and I get the feeling it has lots of
nulls.

On a VHF/UHF rig it's easier but car parks are a menace
and I ended up putting a small mag mount just over the
rear door and accepting that when I forget it's going to
be hanging nicely in view in the interior mirror.

I anticipated problems at 100W pep but the computers were
good as gold. It's other times when they mess me about.

Franky I discovered that I didn't use it enough and it's
currently in a box in the workshop awaiting a less stress
instalation.

Fitted an FT857 in my RR Classic. The rig sits where the CD changer should
be using the rmote head placed under the front cup holders and the aerial is
placed at the rear on the roof.

My main concern was RFI. I think that I'll go with the new ICOM 7000
rig. The antenna I'll mount on the front bumper.

My RRC has it's fair share of computers in it with EAS, memory seats, remote
locking etc and I have had no problem running 100W HF through an ATAS120
mounted to the rear of the roof.. I think your main problem will be if you
have a mismatch on the aerial and the RF travels down the screen of the
coax. Make sure that the ground is well connected at the base of the aerial,
mine has an alloy roof so to make sure that corrosion does not effect it I
have run copper ground wires under the roof as well.

The plan is to put a winch mountabtle bumper which will give me a good
base. The antenna will be either a High Sierra Screwdriver or a Moonraker.
