on my hevac the outside temp always reads wrong, somewere between 0c and 10c even with the weather weve had over the last few weeks its giving me an ice warning! anyone got any ideas?

It dont bother me so If i just leave it will it affect the car ie.heating cooling ect?
Yes, it's used in the calculation of how much heat/cool is required to maintain cabin temperature.
On mine the sensor is to the lower right (N/S of car) of the the RAD looking from the front, along side the mounting upright. Earlier ones were I believe located in a different place.

Change the sensor, though doesn't always cure the fault, they're not that expensive. Early one is located in cabin air intake plenum below windscreen on left I think, later ones infront of radiator, low down on the left side of car. To change the later type you need to remove the front bumper for access, no other way. The sensor looks like a 3 inch long thin probe with connection plug at the top.

you dont need to remove the bumper, long extensions, a socket to fit the sensor, and insulation tape to keep the new sensor in the socket when replacing.Remove the grill(4 phillips screws) and the bonnet slam pannel (4 13mm bolts) for access.regards

Just checked,a 19mm socket will fit the square end of the sensor, only needs to turn 90 degrees to lock.I used very long pointed pliers to remove/replace connecter. My sensor is the later type fitted by the rad and the part number for this one is jtf 100270

Update
last few days ive been keeping track of the reading and it seems when its reading a high temp its right but often it will read 0c with ice warning its totaly random as to when it reads right and when its wrong
im thinking mabey a loes wire/bad contact somewere? Would this cause these simtoms?
Or am i best just fiting a new sensor?
Its a 96 by the way so im guessing itll be near the windscreen ive not had time to look for it yet
