My mate has an old Landy that has had a 300TDI transplant. Driving to work he started losing all power consistently having to drop through the box to maintain drive. He has since changed the fuel filter and fitted a new lift pump. His Landy now fires and runs for 30-40 seconds before cutting out. I have checked his filter and it only appears 1/2 full hence the fuel starvation and engine cutting out. Any ideas?
 
Small pinhole leak in a fuel line, might not let much fuel out, but might let enough air in ...

I'd Jet or Steam wash all along the fuel pipes and tank so you can see or at least recognise where they go, let it dry, bone dry, as dry as dry things on a dry day after being dried out. Then try and run it till it stops or goes wappy and see if you can see a leak!

If you don't find any leaks but can spot any chafing at corners or bends then bite the bullet and change the fuel lines. Well, I would .. :)
 
Right this is where we are at.....
Everything would appear to be working but obviously something is not. We filled the filter with fuel and the engine runs great and even drives great until the filter runs out of fuel. Somewhere down the line there is something causing fuel starvation. We have had a compressor on the fuel lines back to the tank and all seems clear. The lift pump also seems to be working and we have loosened the injector pipes and all to seems to be well. Is there anything that we may have missed? The lift pump is a Delphi item which are known to be good quality items.

Do it the other way too. Then try blocking the ends and see if it holds pressure, indicating a leaking fuel line.
 
Ok ! So your mate's fitted a NEW lift pump ! DID he fit NEW olives when he did this?:rolleyes: OR leave the OLD 1s on the pipes:eek::rolleyes:?? YOUR GETTING AIR in the system !:mad: Also put a NEW filter on as the old 1 may blocked if it's been on a while :oops::rolleyes: & HAVE you put the PIPES on the lift pump the RIGHT way round:oops::oops::oops::oops::rolleyes::eek:

have you checked suction bipe in tank small pin hole one method I have used is take suction pipe out of tank block other end of pipe befor injector pump put pressure on pipe and see if it holds ihave used foot pump with pressure gauge on it to test it
 
could there be floting abstruction in tank try taking suction pipe out of tank put in gallon can of diesel can you blead it now can you put gauge on suction side of pump has pump been primed you could put tank off lawn mower or like on roof of landrover gaavity feed to suction pipe or by pass lift pump and gravity feed directly to filter could diesel return pipe to tank be blocked?ressure a nother method I have used take suction pipe out tank take diesel return pipe out of tank block end gey foot pump turn on ignition pressure sustem to 12 psi does it hold to connect foot pump to pipe yoy can get valve out of old inner tube take out valve core trim off exces rubber find rubber tubebush over valve andsuction pipe make shore no leaks yoyr pump must have a none return valve in it

you could take pump off engine leave pipes connected to pump opeate leaver that rests on cam shaft can you get it to pump have you tested old pump to se if it works it could be faulty new pump is it possible o get pump operating arm rong side of camshaft never worked on this engine so don't know worked on hgv/earth moving plant is tank vent clear?

One by one we worked methodically through the possible causes of the fuel starvation issue. We have identified the root cause and resolved the issue. We have established that the culprit was indeed a blocked filter on the end of the fuel pick-up pipe in the tank. One Landy is back on the road. ;)
