I need to replace the viscous coupling in a Borg Warner Transfer Box for my 1990 2.5 Turbo D Range Rover.

The box has a chain drive and the current viscous coupling has siezed.

I know I can get a new coupling for just under £300 but would like to save money by buying a good secondhand unit.

The old unit is available for those of you that prefer to lock the centre diff for permanent off road use.

Happy New Year

Mike

Any good Landrover magazine will list numerous breakers yards for the part. Why can't you strip the unit you have and rebuild it ?

In middle of January I might know where theres a whole Range Rover forsale (I got a really unhappy Email from someone claiming to be server admin moaning when I advertised my F reg Range Rover forsale on here and not in Classified)

Thanks for the reply.

The Viscous coupling can only be stripped and repaired by specialists like Ashcroft Transmisions

Legs advise that the unit be replaced.

The rest of the transfer box seems fine.

Breaker prices seem to be very high when compared to a rebuilt unit.

PLease keep me posted on the Range Rover you might be selling
