I'm new to this site and new to landrovers, I bourt a defender 90 2.5 td 1989 model 6 months ago now since iv owned this caro have had a new starter motor a new thermostat a new exhaust a newclutch and she requires a new master cylinder for clutch, also I have failed 2 MoTs on numerous things including welding in 6 places leaking steering rack and loads of little things bit to my advantage I'm a welder so iv done it all and all the bits that needed doing and she passed this week, now I got 2 problems? 1 she seems to overheat after driving for 20 minutes or so the needle sits between half way and the red! Is this normal? I have as u say changed the thermostat and flushed all water from radiator and Put fresh in but she stays the same, also today I have yet another problem! Every time I turn (eitherway) at around 25mph upwards I am getting bad vibration and a sort of grinding nOise coming from the front end somewhere and since this has started I have noticed that when I brake there's nocking feeling coming through the peddal like a nock on every rotaion of the wheel or sommet, can any 1 help I'm new to defenders and I'm no macanic but I will give it a go like all other work I have done myself.

needle sounds about right it may have wrong sensor in it. tdi sensor reads high.in a TD.

knock sounds like cv joint or worn swivel bearing chwck all ya bushes as well jack wheel up and spin by hand to see if you can feel it..

is it actually overheating?? guage sounds ok, get a probe on the stat housing n check temp, also look at the rad core, td's are old by now the fins may have rotted away

cv sounds like a culprit but check your prop UJ's and wheel bearing play

pulsed pedal may be warped front discs or rear drums gone oval

Cheers Steve

Thanks, don't Wana sound stupid but where is the cv joint? The vibration seems to be coming from the passenger side wheel when I turn it vibrates all the windows on that side and there's like a grinding noise as if the wheel is rubbing on summet on that side but it can't be that as it's never dine this before

No she isn't actualy overheating but it bugs me as the dial is in front of me lol!and it seems a bit warm in the cap to what it used to, I think maybe it's ok as long as it not in the red, and that a new radiator may be something to think about in the ne'er future, but this grinding noise is the main thing at the minute, She only passed her MOT Thursday and now this :(

take the rad to a rad shop and have them do a cleaning inside and out with a pressure test

Ok thanks I will jack her up in the morning an have a look, and how much would that be to have the radiator flushed?

You don't have your location in your profile.

I'm going to be selling my rad if your near me. It's a late model including oil cooler. I had it professionally pressure tested and the oil cooler checked a couple of months ago with a clean bill of health (still have receipt).

Looks like you where all wrong!! I'm just collecting my back wheel from some ####ers garden after it flew of 20foot in the air!! Turns outthe wheel spacer has come completely of somehow!!!

Doesn't look like any damage, im just waiting for my mate t come with mytools an jack then tryan get it back on then i'l park her up for a bit an give her a good check allover, good job I wasn't on a main road or owt could have been alot worse
