Ok fanbelt burst today (no option but to drive it home) will get new fan belt tomorrow, the question I have is that it was noted that between the Power steering pump and the AC pump the AC pump actually looks as if it is 'stepped back' by 2-3 mm as the belt is not straight but going back at an angle, is this correct or is there some adjustment I can make to the AC pump to move it forward? no point in fitting a new belt if it is just going to rip it apart again?

Does there appear to be any mounting spacers/washers that have been positioned in the wrong order on re-assembly after previous repairs?

Sorry I own a diesel rangie so can't even have a look to check, but the belt should run in a straight line.

i'd be more concerned about driving home with no fan belt to drive the fan or water pump:eek:

2-3mm?? really?? thats like [ ]... the fan belts are groved and will handle that very slight mis alignment i'm sure. :D

put another fan belt on it they do wear

A 2 or 3 mm miss alignment will knacker the fan belt PDQ:eek:

Could the pulley on the viscous fan be incorrectly fitted or the incorrect pump which could affect alignment! The tensioner fits straight to the head and cannot be adjusted. The alternator and aircon pump are fixed forward and back as well as up and down!
