i have a clarion system screen in front worked fine last night now theres no power as its a big system with tv aerial dvd player say nax etc etc dont really want to replace it at huge cost

just seems funny theres no power like its a fuse or electrical dont know anything about anything is there a specific fuse for the stereo somewhere or something?

Have a look at Fuse 1 in the BeCM which controls the Instrument pack, Clock, Radio, Centre console switch pack. Most after market systems have a separate fuse though, try pulling the head unit out and having a look.

i have tried touching and wiggling all wires and nothing but theres just no power is there any easy way of determning if power is getting to it?
theres been no warning signs of anything wrong was fine now no power

I would use either a multimeter or one of those electric screwdrivers with a bulb in it. either way take the plug out and probe what should be the live feed to the stereo, which obviously with the ignition on, should give you 12 volts or so. I also have an electric screwdriver which contains a bulb, which allows you to tell if there is current in a wire. At least you can then tell if it's the stereo or the feed.

right i have a multi meter here what setting should i put it on as im no good with this stuff
it has dcv/acv/dca/ohms and where do i put the red and black prongs i know you said in the plug but both of them on one connection? or one and one somewhere else etc? i have no idea but will di it now.

You need it on DCV. can you identify the red and black wires which should be pos and neg? If you can then put the red meter wire to the red wire pin and the black to the black

right from furthest back socket get readings around 13 then next one up near stereo about the same then the plug that seems to go into can get a similar reading but have to move the probes around inside plug to get it cant just get a reading by sticking them in
is there any easy way of testing the unit at all?

how would i test the unit as really really dont want to buy another one of these unless i have to!

so if i remove it from the car i have a spare battery in the house and i make 2 small wires and touch them between the corresponding red and black pins on back of stereo where the red and black is on the plug and touch the other side to red and black on battery would that work??????? dont want to blow it up or anything!

ok i have no manuals or anything with this so basically the corresponding yellow pin on back of stero from plug and this end goes to what positive or negative on the battery?

I also have an electric screwdriver which contains a bulb, which allows you to tell if there is current in a wire. At least you can then tell if it's the stereo or the feed.

They're for AC only unless you have one with an earth lead designed specifically for cars. The electrical screwdrivers you get at B&Q etc are for mains 220/240Vac. It's a neon inside which only lights up when you touch the end of the handle and the blade is on the live. They don't work on DC as you have on cars etc.
