Or unbolting your hubs to see how much drive shaft comes out.

hmm, i'm gonna take that one with a pinch of salt, but thanks alot for your previous post. very helpful indeed. Hopefully wont be too drastic a job to get it sorted, and now have a good idea of what to look for and how to go about it. nice one

would it be worth draining the rear axle to check what comes out? if its full of metal bits then maybe your diff has exploded.

good luck "george". maybe see you sunday and give you a hand if you havent sorted it :)

G

cheers griff, may well need it! we'll see what adventures tomorrow brings...

Why. if you unbolt the hub and pull the driveshaft out and it hasn't got any splines on the end you'll know its bust!

ah, ok. remember a long time ago playing with hubs and sun gears? was a long long day. as say, a long time ago, will start on the inside and work my way out. been a long time since i got my hands greasy so im greatful for all the advice.

pull of the plastic caps from the rear hubs, crawl underneth and turn the rear prop back and forth with the handbrake off then get someone else to look at the hubs while you're turning the prop, if the shafts are turning within the hubs, then the hub splines are worn, replace the half shafts and hubs.
