I find pm-ing peeps shows the great qualities of peeps on here.
i have had quite a lot of help and support via this, indeed someone on here has just helped me hugely with the problem i currently have with my Disco.
I have also been a giver as well as a receiver this way.
so the "follower" thing really seems to be a bit of a red herring, especially as after the initial notification I have been unable to find out who, if anyone is following me. But that may be my fault.
If they changed the term to "Stalking" it might be more appropriate!

If you go to your own profile page, you can click on a list of people that you are following, and people that are following you.

Sounds a bit like a conga line, but that is what you get. :D

Myself, I rarely PM people, unless I have met them in person, or if they PM me first.

That's interesting. I don't know if it is coming from oop norf, but I am never afraid to start a conversation with a stranger. I do it all the time in circumstances when we are both in a place waiting for something, like at a ferry port dockside etc. Have never had a rebuff and often have an interesting convo. So this is why I'll pm peeps.
I have been to my profile page and found the list of peeps I follow but, whether blind or not, i don't seem to be able to see the bit that tells you who is following you.:rolleyes:

On my page, which I am viewing on a laptop, there are two panels on the left hand side.
One is called "Following" , and the other is called "Followers".
At the top right hand side of the panels is a number, in my case 54. If I click or tap on the number, a full list of the followers comes up.

This bit made me chuckle. I spent most of my life in the South, usually in or around Bristol, but was originally from Cleveland area and indeed many of my family still live up there.

Prior to my current home in Wilts., I was living in the big smoke for a few years, south, towards Gatwick (Croydon for anyone that wants to commiserate me) and whenever my dad or other relatives visited me in London, I'd see them trying to strike up conversations with anyone that was stood still just a bit too long. :D

Whilst on the tram, or the subway was even worse, if a little closer to central, you could see people quickly looking down to avoid eye contact, once they realised an old fella was working his way down the carriage or platform talking to anyone that happened to look up. It was quite funny in an awkward kind of way, although, that said, whilst most people seemed to try and avoid an unprompted conversation, many actually took to it and warmly opened up when they realised he probably wasn't trying to rob them or try to illicit their spare change.

Just found it. I have 6 followers. some of whom I have no idea who they are.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

After fecking around with it a bit I realised i was on the wrong part of the profile thingy.
So yes I have 7 followers and two of them live nearby-ish in France.
But a couple, I have no idea who they are or why they are following me.
At 54 you must be much more interesting than me!!!!!

Not really. They are mostly people I know in real life, but are also on the forum.
Plus a few that I have advised about stuff.
Plus a few randomers who started following me, so I reciprocated.
Plus a few high posters that I have spoken to quite a bit on the forum.

I don't know of any advantages to following, or being followed, just a bit of a courtesy thing, and a leftover from the old forum, I guess.

Taking things at face value , I would suggest that to be "followed" is showing recognition for being 'in the know' and in general peeps must find your posts interesting , by the way I'm not following you no pun intended
 
Bit late for the party guys, a faulty 19J lift pump can dump fuel into the oil, In my experience it wont be the head, because even if the head were cracked the fuel would still go into the cylinder, and the symptoms , all be it quite vague, suggest a fueling issue. 30 odd quid for a lift pump after testing the old one equalls a top end strip down? We all know what we would find in a 19J with the head off, doesnt mean they are broke, cracking around the pre combustion chambers is normal, cracked piston crowns is normal, that engine is coked up due to fuelling issues, if the valves were hitting the pistons you would soon know about it, the bend rod could be an old wound and taken up by adjusting the valve clearance, normally rockers dont adjust them selves to the point where a valve smashes into a piston , and when a valve does drop and smash a piston it literally smashes a piston.
 
Here is what I would do, all the exhaust valves have been screwed up somehow, remove them, reseat/replace them, check the rods, replace if necessary, bang it back together taking much care to adjust the valve clearence properly then look for the fueling issue that caused this.
Get some new combustion chambers while you are at it.

Or, buy another 19J, they are cheap, look for a late one, they are easy to pull and replace, anjoy the lack of power and speed, but running right they run like sewing machines.

I would also buy a decent pop tester and overhaul the injector nozzles, those CAV injectors arnt a fit and forget, they wear, sieze and unless checked and overhauled can seriousley bring a 19J to its knees. Dont think a bottle od Redex every few thousand miles will do this, it wont.

The good thing about the 19J is it quite a tough engine, contrary to popular beliefe, if you look after it properly it works a treat.
