Went to car this morning and there is oil comming from swivel housing think maybe seals have gone somewhere? has anyone fixed this problem before themselves? is it a big job beacuse i dont fancy paying garage prices what with the credit crunch an all, Any advice would be very helpful, thanks for looking, Ian

ps is the car still safe to drive?

Thanks very much on my way now to get some lithium moly grease and going to try it, Thanks again for the speedy help let you know if it solves it, Ian

It's not that bad of a job really.. is it nick;) The hardest part is doin' the preloads as they're a PITA! A good sugestion is to take photies as yer takin' bit's off and look at the piccies in reverse for puttin' stuff back on. Mind you, ye could always botch it by takin' the plate off the back and cut the old seal to remove, then cut the new seal and stick it back on and tighten the plate back up (not recommended!). It's also handy to have a manwell for torque settings and stuff. Like ah said, it's not that bad a job and ye can check yer bearings/ seals etc at the same time;)

Agreed its a straightforward task but one worry, WHY is it leaking. A pitted swivel is usually the reason but it can be that the swivel bearings have collapsed, check for play/wear, reshim or renew as required.
