Anyone recommend a LR inde near Wallasey; I've apparently suffered brake fade, losing the brakes almost completely for the last 5 miles of my 100 mile trip to pick up my mother from the airport. Whilst the brakes now work as they are cool, I clearly can't risk driving the 100 miles back.

The RAC want £250 to tow me home (Lake District) as free recovery only to local area. Would rather get it sorted in Wallasey/or nearby first thing, but would appreciate the heads up on a local garage (the RAC will tow me 'free' locally as part of my policy). Don't seem to be able to find much local on the internet.

Thanks for any help,

Just had a google for you....Bison 4x4 are at Upton they travel to breakdowns by the looks - might be worth a look, they are about 4 miles away going by google maps.

Brake fade is due to your brake fluid becoming out of specification. It should be changed at service intervals. Bleed your brakes FULLY with new fluid and it should be fine ;)
Also check that your brakes are not binding and heating up the fluid. You mentioned that they are fine now they are cool......

Yes, feel your wheels after a journey to see if they are hot. As mentioned this can be as a result of binding brakes resulting in brake fade.

is it your brakes fading or has the suction pipe got a hole in it where you feel as though you have no brakes ,but you have and your pedal is hard ,if so look at the tube going over the gear box .
