hi everyone reading this, i am the very proud owner of a "B" reg Land Rover 90, which has a 2.25 petrol engine under the bonnet. i bought this over 3 years ago now and i have loved it from the day i saw it, of course with this being a petrol land rover there were some problems. At best i could get 15 MPG, due to some carb problems it burnt 20 ltrs of fuel doing only 6 miles travelling. i have had a new timing chain fitted and it was then running really silently and a dream.
Anyways the reason why im here is i have discovered that my Bill has a 2.25 engine with a 2.5 Weber Type 32 carb fitted. This was the original card for the vehicle when i bought it and it has be problemsome. After about 12 months of owning and driving the landy i had to have the carb replaced and just bought a like for like carb.

Should it really be a problem having a 2.5 carb instead of the original factory fitted carb.

Please help :)

The original carb may have been the Weber type 32, as these were fitted to later 2.25's, as well as 2.5's but it may have been a Zenith 36IV. I don't think there should be any problems running the weber type 32 carb from a 2.5, as the only difference between the carbs fitted to the 2.25 and 2.5, is in the jetting. In fact, the 2.5 carb gives a much better throttle response. The 2.25 engine is never very good on fuel, and 15mpg is not unexpected. One common carb conversion is a Weber 34ICH. The problem with this carb is that it is really too small for the engine. It achieves an improvement in economy, but at the expense of engine power. It is also prone to blockages too.
