I decided once and for all to try and sort the leaks on my Disco and so took the carpets out(to dry) and removed the headlining.

I have had the windscreen refitted twice.
I have araldited all four plastic corners on the sunroof tray.
I have silicone sealed between the sunroofs and the roof.
I have blown out the sunroof drain pipes.
I have cleaned the Aircon drain pipes and cable tied the top ends in place

and I still have a leak.....

The attached photo is of the top right hand side of the windscreen and the pencil shows where the water is coming in.

What is the chewing gum for?

Any ideas where the water is coming from? Should I just stick loads of sealant in where the pencil is or will the water just drain into the car further down?

Thanks in advance for any help and ideas.

Neil

Hi Neil, The chewing gum is just a lump of panel sealer....I would remove it. Then get someone to wet test the car with a hose pointed at the outside corner of the windscreen where your pencil is and you sit on the inside and check for water ingress.

Also check the end of the roof rail on the driverside to make sure that the factory sealer hasn't broken away from the metal or cracked and allowing the water in.

If you get water through to the inside of the car, there is a gap between the panels.I would not use silicone to seal it, i would use sikoflex or something similar.

Hi WolfyDave, thanks for the reply. The sealant I am using is not silicon but polymer based. I bought it from a local auto paint supplier so I hope that is OK.

Should the cap on the end of the roof rail come off easily? I have used a reasonable amount of effort but it doesn't want to come off and I don't want to break it. Is there a knack?

If I take the panel sealer off should I seal the area it covers?

Thanks

Neil

The front edge of the roofrail nearest the windscreen does not have a cover, its just finished off with sealer.
Before you apply sealer to the inside, you really need to find where the water is coming in from, as if you just sealer the inside the water will just track inside the car and find somewhere else to bleed into.

If you have bought the sealer from a carbody repair shop suppliers it should be good for the job.
