Help or advice needed please. .mad.

Hi,

I have just swapped a 2005 Saab 93 for a Diesel 2004 Freelander S, and I'm now experiencing a few problems and would love. Some help or advice:

1) Driver side electric window switch for the front passenger window does not work (I have stripped and looked,but Nothing seams to be out of the ordinary) the front passenger window switch works and the window will operate up and down from the passenger side. Fixed - New window switch.

2) Front windscreen wipers have a mind of there own whistle on intermittent wipe, but work fine on normal and fast operation. Whistle they are on intermittent wipe they will travel from park to the vertical position and stay there for 2 maybe 3 seconds then travel part way back down but not reaching the park position, they 2 or 3 second they will travel back up the screen. Fixed - New wiper motor.

3) Starting the Freelander seams fine and so is the idle speed, when you drive for the first time they is quiet a lot of White/blue smoke for the first 3-5 miles.
Whistle driving there seams to be a flat spot when changing from 3rd to 4th gear the turbo seems to be late.
I had the Freelander booked into Micheldever for a Full service, tyres and as it turned out a new back box (due to a hole between the I near and outer skins) I though this may help but it has not.
On travelling to and from the north west I have notice other problems like when the Freelander is taken over 3000 rpm for less than. Mile the engine management light with ! Comes on and may disappear (if not then I turn the engine off for 20 seconds, sorry to go on but this is the last one, whistle on the motorway and maintaining a constant speed, the Freelander will hesitate (feels like you are deaccelarating then it will pick back up.

Some advice for you and you might not like it, I'm really trying to be ernest here and this is meant as usefully as it can be:

If the freelander is winding you up this badly and you need a car that works flawlessly each time you turn the key then the Freelander is never going to be that car unless you are a competant DIY mechanic (like many of us here) or you have enough money and time to get it into the garage often. If this is not something you can do then perhaps it would be prudent to trade in the Freelander for something Japanese - they are known for very high reliability.

There will be people who can help you with your problems, however you may be frustrated and the frequency and cost of repairs. I have done everything on mine myself or with the help of a friend and I've spent nearly £2k on parts alone in the six months I have owned it. God knows how much that would have been if it was all done in a garage - probably over £4k. I don't mind because it's a hobby and I don't commute. There are people with trouble free Freelanders, however they have worked very hard and have spent a great deal to get there.

Mine is also a 2004.

I hope that isn't really annoying for you, but it sounds like Freelander ownership may not be for you . But best of luck if you decide to stick it and we'll be with you every step of the way.

change the window switch, check out the turbo hoses, and possibly the wiper switch is at fault.

Hi same as the other guys said try changing the switches ;or swap the n/side window switch to the o/side see what happens as for the engine management light and poor running it could be that the fuel pump is not working at its proper pressure , mine had a simmilar problem then it stopped altogether it turned out to be the fuel pump on the n/side inner wing . Mind you mine is a 2001 td4 so dont know if yours has the same layout as mine ? by the way the fuel pump in my deisel tank packed up about a month after i renewed the other 1 but its fine now and i wouldnt swap mine for nowt hope this helps Bigcat

Just a quick update, i had a diagnostics check done on Saturday, the results are, number 4 injector failed, low fuel pressure and low boost pressure.

The Landy is now in the garage, having the injectors cleaned and check, replaced if needed.

will update once i have it back.

Right, I've got the Freelander back, had all injectors cleaned and tested (all good no replacements needed) in the end the Fuel pump had started to fall apart, as they empted the fuel out of the pump there was little metal filling in with the fuel.

I have been driving the Freelander for 1 week now and all smoke has gone, there is more power and drives good, I've just got to change to PCV valve and all is good.

Update:-

Since the last update the following has been replaced:

New Turbo, Turbo pressure sensor pipe and sensor, new glow plugs, new Thermostate, new aux belts and Major service £1800 inc VAT.

It now drives like a new mota.
