HELP Oil Leak??

Ok My mate decided he wanted to look at the underside of a landy 90 and went under mine,
he Spotted oil around both ends of the gear box,
there is not enough for it to drip but it is clearly leaking somewhere,

so then we decide to have the bonnet up, we look to the rear of the fan belt under where the oil dip stick is to see there is some oil around this too,........

is this normal?

This is my First landy so any input appreciated

300Tdi Defender 90....

Do you mean the transfer box (the bit both the prop shafts come out of) is leaking?

What colour is the oil round yer gearbox?

Its The gear box, dead centre of landy, got a drian hole on the underside of it.

It's a black Oil unfortunately im not that mechanically minded, am uploading photos to photobucket as we speak

My gearbox looks a bit like that and it could be engine oil bein blown back from the sump due to the power of the viscous fan, clean up yer sump and gearbox wi brake cleaner and monitor it for a few days

Also take yer wading plug out and if you get a gush of oil it could be your rear crankshaft oil seal leakin into the bellhousing or yer gearbox seal at the front wots leakin, do you look at your oil levels very often?

Have highlighted it in these photos, like i said, its my first landy so it might not be anything to worry about but area highlighted were still wet oil.......

i know these engines give off some oil. but i wanted to check

this is the one i noticed in the engine bay also?

i'm new to this so it might just be a factory fitted leak or a usual thing? but wanted to ask the pro's!!

lol i thought i'd get it done to make the chassis look pretty!

in re to checking the oil levels, i check the engine one once a week, how do i check the gear box oil?? or silly question?

Erm.......... i have no idea, my mate said it was the gear box so i went with that lol, im learning and picking things up slowly as i go along......

undo the filler plug on the side of the gearbox and use a plastic bottle with a tube attached squeeze bottle to force oil up tube. when the oil starts to come back out of the filler hole it's at the right level.

Thanks i'll do that tomorrow evening.....
so to conclude the "leak" is not a leak but is a usual thing that i shouldnt be too worries about yea?
