and my neighbour came round to let us know that he'd also heard it. It continued to off at around five, six, and seven. Yawn! The culprit is a TD5 Disco ES auto (2002). The alarm was a single continous noise with no lights flashing, the doors still open and lock as normal and the car also starts, but the alarm is still sounding. My mate reckons the battery is naff but whatever it is I've got to get it fixed by tonight. Has this ever happened to anyone in here and what is the remedy? Is there anything I can do to switch the bloody noise off in the meantime? If I need to replace the battery do I need the code for the immobiliser or can I just whip of the negative terminal before the positive on the battery. Cheers for any advice

there are 2 reasons as to why your alarm is sounding,

1 your vehicle battery is goin flat and the battery back up system is stepping in

or

2 it sounds to me as if it is the battery back-up battery the sounder goes off but no lights etc this should be found within the sounder case mounted under the bonnet. if it has never happened before it may be the charge wire to the sounder has broken/lost contact.

so long as you follow the instructions in your manuel you shouldnt need the immobilizer code just remove the battery positive terminal and reconnect it with in 10 seconds, then you should be able to remove the positive again without any sound or problems reguarding immob code or alarm goin off

get a battery charger on the battery in the meantime. sounds like a low battery whine

you'll need the radio code if you replace the battery... unless you can rig some temporary 12v power pack to the terminals during the change...

Thanks for the tip, I don't have a manual for a TD5 so I'll have to rummage around for the sounder case. Any special requirements for when I buy the battery or is it a case of "one size fits all"?

I forgot to add that last night the Disco wasn't locked when it went off at 3 am although I locked it afterwards and it still went off. Called up loads of garages after a battery in Herts (formula one, Kwik fit, various garages and no one seems to have a suitable battery available. I'll give Halfords a try tomorrow. Anyway it drives fine and I've parked it overnight in a non residentual area to keep peace with the neighbours. I'll be looking at the condition of the battery and back up battery (wherever it is) and take the next step. Again if any one has anything more to add please do.

Cheers and have a great Friday night.

Al
