Hi guys i have an 02 plate td4 auto and on crimbo day it started playin up by it all starts fine and runs ok but struggles to get over 50mph and sometimes struggles to get over 30mph, i called RAC out and he unplugged the airflow meter and also blanked off the egr pipe and it was ok for a short while then went back to struggling to get over 50 ( i was on the A12) , tried it today and went short journey started fine runs ok but driving it struggled to get over 30mph !
Any ideas ??
Thanks in advance chaps

You need to plug it into a diagnostics code reader. It'll probably show up some form of fuel pressure code and will probably be down to a failing fuel pump or wiring harness.

There's loads of stuff on here about it - start with a search on "limp mode" but I'm sure some TD4 guys will respond with more info.

Thanks guys, No no warning light at all , just came out crimbo day got in and after a couple of minutes just had no oomph

I'm no expert, mate, there are folk hereabouts who are though... hopefully one will be along in a mo' to help :)

Mine started to do this and it was the low pressure fuel pump... they tend to go around 70k miles.... the fuel filter is a proper arse to get out and as a consequence are often left unchanged.

When you turn on the ignition stand at the back offside of the vehicle, you can hear the pump... if you can't it's shot and if it's really rumbling then it's failing...

Therein lies the extent of my knowledge... I would have thought your would have got the engine management light though

Cheers mate for the reply, will pump be making a continuous noise all the time the ignotion is on if working fine ?? Or have i got to turn on and sprint to the rear to catch it ??
Well ive got no horn either and im told the clockspring on the steering wheel shaft is fubar so get no airbag light either, dunno if thats why i got no warning light ?

The horn wire in the clock spring (as you call it) is known to fail so the airbag might be OK hence no warning light.
Can't help on the no power issue tho other than the obvious things like a failed turbo or vac hose.
And the fuel pump should hum for a few seconds after turning on the ignition.

Cheers mate will try the listening one in the morning , too frikin cold out there now !
Its due in for a service next tuesday and the garage is a landy independent so hopefully they can sort it, but im on nightshift that week so the tuesday day its in for service i could do with it being sorted then, if it is a pump then gotta source one and have it fitted another time i guess, just have to be on the go slow !

Hi this is how mine was and it ended up being centre fuel rail sensor plug, and maybe the most common of TD4.
I was lucky with mine and just squeezed the plug with long nose pliers to make a better connection

Hi mate thanks for the reply, where would i find that plug as ive only had the car couple of weeks so am totally blind to it !

Right curiosity just got the better of me and just went out and listenend, its making a humming noise with the occasional clicking ticking noise , is this normal or sounds shot ??

hope this helps this can be done without removing anything but much easier if you remove the air pipe,
i would recommend removing the plug spraying with contact contact cleaner the squeezing connection,
hope the pics help.
let me know if you need more

I have two TD4's, one hums so quietly you can hardly hear it, the other buzzes like a demented bluebottle so I suspect I'll be replacing it sometime soon. Yours sounds like it's fine.

The one that sounds like the bluebottle does it actually drive and pull ok tho ??

Well been out and had a spray on the fuel rail sensor plug but no joy still the same, But gotta say the fuel pump in the rear wheel arch is makin quite a racket so looks like im gonna have to just wait til it goes in tues for the service and to get them to hook it up to diagnostics and see what they think !
