HELP gearbox/transfer box noise

I have a series 1 Disco with LT77 gearbox (I think!) which suddenly whilst going downhill started making a clattering clunking sound and the speedo failed (not sure if this is linked). Can still select all gears and seems to be fine going uphill, but downhill makes this disturbing noise. Any ideas? Please.

it may be worth checking the oil levels in the box to make sure its getting plenty of lubrication.it may be a co incidence the speedo stopped working i didnt think the 300 tdi had a speedo cable.

I would do an gearbox oil change into a clean container through some fine mesh or summet to see if there's bit's of cogs flying around in there.

Iron filings on the drain plug is normal as it's magnatized!
