I am having alot of trouble selecting low- high gears! I have looked at the linkage and it was loose so I have tightened it all up but the Linkage seems to buckle with the force I am having to input to try and change from low-hi??? I have straightened all the linkage out and tried again but same, from high to low seems ok and diff lock works ok it's just low to high, I have now unattached all the linkage and have took the cover of top of transfer box were the leaver goes in and it looks ok? any ideas what to try next please

you could try loosening 6mm grub screw on rear of rhs of t/box ,it adjusts the detent ,usually you wind it in till lever jams then back tll it operates

Sorry ul have to excuse my lack of nolage with the defender lol and I don't know hOw to upload a photo as I'm using my phone,
Right my transfer box Is an early lt230t if that helps, I have looked at the back of the box and all I can see is fixing bolts and a bracket of somekind on the back with a large nut to 1 end and a fixing bolt to the top of this? This is just behind the hand brake drum more to the centre of the tbox, all rest I can see are fixing bolts! Am I looking in the right place???

The leaver is not free at all, I'm currently stuck in low now and I have taken the casing of the top of the transfer box so to straighten the leaver as I bent it abit trying to force her out of low ratio and i'l just have another look for this grub screw :)

Do you mean the bar I can see after taking the casing of??? Can I slacken that and lubricate the bar?? It's full of oil? And can I do that whilst she in gear?

Just had another look and I tried to a crow bar on the sliding bar thing in top of transfer box inside casing and that thin is stuck in there, in low gear, still can't find the grub screw but will have a look tommorow after all the oil spilled has soaked up from underneath the truck,
Could something be wrong inside the transfer box itself? What's behind the sliding bar? What could be stopping it coming out of low and into high??

sliding bar is the selector rod it has a fork on it that moves hi/lo collar between the 2 ,high is at rear so rod would want to go backward ,its unusual for them to fail or stiffen unless diff bearings are going or detents too tight or seized
