hi all, recently bougght a disco 200tdi 1993, i bought it with a knackered gearbox (it struggles for any gears and wont go in fourth)
anyway today whilst moving it from the garage to the drive i noticed that even with the clutch fully pressed it was trying to drive still.
anyway after dinner i went to move it back into the garage and the clutch pedal stayed down and drive was engaged all the time (as though the clutch pedal was up). the small resovoir for the clutch is empty.

any ideas what may have gone?

im fitting a new clutch and gearbox at the weekend when ive picked the gearbox up.

what else my require replacing? master cylinder for clutch? slave cylinder?

any help appreciated. ive done a search but cant really find anything relevent.

couple of questions, was the gearbox knackerd or is the gear box knackerd, as it sounds like it was a clutch issue, when a clutch starts to go it tends to put a strain on the box making it hard to select gears, loosing fluid is probably from the slave cylinder part fitted to gear box that also would make it hard to select gears, replacement is the best option.getting another gear boxand fitting is a lot of work for nothing if it isnt the box. i would be tempted to replace the slave cylinder and try it before going for the box, if you have any queerys just ask or email me and i wil help as much as i can , regards jim

Two threads of mine from earlier this year, have a read, lots of info and similar story to yours.

intresting stuff, my landy has done 285,000 miles so ive decided to replace the follwoing and have ordered most of the bits this afternoon lol.

gearbox (got 2 coming of a lad on here)
slave cylinder
3 piece clutch kit
new clutch fork
new clutch flexi hose.

all totals upto about 150 so not to bad.

you're gonna be busy...

Make sure you fit the plastic clip for the pushrod onto the clutch arm before you put the box on, its friggin murder to do after...

(another thread of mine LOL)

Have you looked at the clutch release lever? I used to have a 200 disco, and mine punched a hole right through the weedy lever.. ended up with the symptoms you describe.

Resolved it by buying a new lever, all the plastic bits and replacing it, but before I did, I welded a plate on the back of the lever to stop it happening again!

the fork was actually ok on mine, the master cylinder had gone and the bork rings or however you spell it had seized in the gearbox.
ive now fitted
new clutch master cylinder
new clutch slave cylinder
new clutch flexi pipe
new clutch kit
new heavy duty clutch fork
and a good gearbox.
all with frsh oil and its beautiful!
