help can my bulkhead be repaird.

i would minde payin some1 who's done 1 before and nows how its done proply . if i was to get another 1 i would put old 1 with all my other stuff i hog lol. if theres any1 who wants to weld it up for me give me a price not fussed how long it will take as i want it done right
 
Up in cumbria but could probably get it brought up easily enough if some of the LZ couriers are passing by or if you cant find anyone closer/no one driving I could possibly pop down and grab it if you need, it'll fit on the disco roof rack easy enough

Doc you better have a very good jig to bolt that thing in so it does not twist and warp when you start to cut it apart and re weld it. Cause that thing will move about and may not line back up on a reassembly

Got a full table up here with multiple vices, clamps, movable space frame jigs etc so idea would be to clamp it in place when cutting and replace each section one piece at a time

If not I've got the front end of a 90 chassis up at mine so could clamp it into place with the bodywork and do it in situ as it were

not the same B, needs to be bolted to a jig at the beginning of the project until it is finished. Metal moves when cut even with a disc and on welding. Like Red said it is boarder line for rebuild or scrap.

FFS Boy It's had it. By the time you've thrown in the cost of the repair panels, and additional metal. and then counted the hrs of prep, cutting and welding plus cost of wire and gas. It'll be cheaper to buy a 2nd hand one off Ebay.

Would have though the spaceframe jig would be fine ?

Thats whats used for building the ford racing bodies etc so can be moved about to clamp a bulkhead in, nevermind in that case if it cant

new build is always easy. That old bulkhead has built in stress waiting to be released when cut. Is just that simple it has lots of stress put in it through years of service. waiting to spring like a cat:)

i was just thinking the same repair panels ect comes to around £180 then as you said wire gas metal ect .. around £250 with out labour. i have found a bulkhead local but its for a 300tdi ...will it fitt mine what modds needed
 
theres also the small matter of i will eat my hard hat if he can repair that to a good standard in 1 day ( 1x24 hour period)

FWIW even the YRM panels have the holes and stuff drilled in the wrong place - had to plug weld and redrill for the pedals to fit.

and even with the YRM panels there is alot of custom fab to be done to make it "right" as the YRM panels as said are only the outer skin.

im it took me a weekend and a couple evenings to get it looking reasonable and even then it still needs finishing when i get home ! reciprocating saw is your friend for the job as the grinder was bollocks to get in to it ( although my engine was still mounted so had to do it from the inside.

here is a picture of mine a few weeks ago, yours isn't this bad and a welder mate of mine has brought it back to perfect condition after hours of painstaking work.

I was faced with the same question as you but with the need to get back on the road welding was definitely they way forward as all second hand bulkheads i looked at were not far from the same fate as mine.
