Hi every one. My cam belt snapped and I need to get it back on the road asap.
Does anyone as near to Folkestone have a crankshaft holding tool that I can buy, rent or borrow asap please. Many thanks.
James

you did not say what engine you have in it, 200, 300 td5

Ooops, sorry, was stressed and in a rush.
It's a 300tdi. I've got it apart now by using the old starter motor method.....
The clutch kept slipping with our in gear.
I've still got to put it back together yet.
Strangely the belt hadn't snapped.
Just stripped about 16 or so teeth.....
I'm guessing I will be able to tighten it up in gear with out the clutch slipping?
If not I'm going to need this to still.
Got to get two oil seals yet so hoping to have it finished tomorrow.
Best layed plans hey?......lol

I have done crank bolt up with spanner and a hammer before now, when done mark bolt head and pulley with some paint/nail polish so you can see if it has moved.
You dont need the timing tool, its better for accuracy obviously, but needs must and a screwdriver up through the timing hole in flywheel housing, turn engine a little until it stops, mark gear/pulley to casing, do same other way and smack in between the marks will give you timing slot in the middle of the timing hole, drill bit for injector pump and mark on cam gear and you are away.

Never seen a tdi strip the belt teeth before, how many miles/years were on the belt?

hammer fixes the pushrods:cool: but you'll need to source a rocker:(

Rich.

As said, the lack of the crank holding tool should not stop you from getting the work done.

You need to take time out to properly assess the valve train for component damage before throwing in a new belt.

All the best with it.

Thanks guys, I bought the belt back in 2018 so it's my bead for not doing it. I have no idea how old one how many miles but the car has done 316000.
I have a defender of the road so I've borrowed the arm and all 8 pushrods from there.
I already have the timing pins. I just need the crankshaft oil seal now. It's holding me up. Supposed to be in Poole this week for work. Oh well....lol

If you have part number post it here and I will see if I have a seal in my spares, I only have 200 stuff but theres a good chance they might be the same.
Are there other people around running older discos/defenders in your area? someone will have a seal locally.
