Please help, I am struggling to sort out my temp on my 2002 4.4 V8, I had a water leak from my water pump and had a friend replace it for me (BMW mechanic)

Ever since then it has been running slightly hotter than it should be. I have done sum investigating and found that the plug and cable going to the thermastat was all melted and when I went to pull out the thermastat heater it fell apart. (suspect due to getting very brittle with heat and then being disturbed when the pump was replaced.

So have today fitted a new thermastat and replaced the plug and wires to it, I have also checked that I get power to the thermastat heater when it is hot. The bloody car is still running hot but think it could possible be trapped air.

The theory - When cold the bypass is shut, it circulates the water around the block through the heater matrix (which is hot). When it heats up, the engine management sends power to the thermastat heater which opens the thermostat which then circulates water from the pump into the bottom of the radiator and back around.

I have filled the system up until the water over flows the bleed screw on top of the expansion tank, but there must be some tips on how I can get the air out as I'm sure it must be trapped air.

Any help advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks...............Adam

Not sure whether this helps at all. Found on the latest version of RAVE. Its for the American spec V8 but I would assume they are roughly the same.

Thanks for reply, but already have that info in my manual I got of e bay. When I spoke to the main dealer they said they sometimes have to bleed the system about 5 times. Just thought maybe someone had suussed the best practice. Wasn't sure if it was maybe best to put a voltage onto the thermastat heater when cold to open the thermastat early and force cooling water into the radiator (bottom hose while it was cold and the cap was still of the expansion tank. Forcing the water and hopefully air into the epansion tank and out of my system.

Still struggling !!!!!!!!!!
