Hi Guys,

Ive seen lots of threads where people cant get their headlights to turn off, i have the same problem in my 200tdi (1992). Ive seen people saying it could be a silver or black box behind the dash... Mine doesnt have one! Does anyone know what else it could be? is it likely to be the switch? If i dont have one of these boxes, is there likely to be a relay somewhere else? I couldnt see anything behind the dash which resembled one..

Basically the headlights stay on and are very dim, no other lights are on..

Any help much appreciated.. before i start buying new switches etc.. which could be expensive!

Thanks

Flyingfisherman..

The box folks are on about is this one...

Cheers, is that the P/N for the 200tdi/1992 defender 90? I had a look and it looks like i need to take the steering wheel off to change the dip/dim switch..?

Nope, it's the p/n's fur a 200tdi / 1991 defender 110.... but they're both the same;):D The second p/n ah gave ye (h/i/d switch) is from vin # HA to VA.
Aye ye'll have to take the steerin' wheel off if it is the horn/ indicator/ dip switch.... but ye'll get away with just removin' the cover if its the master switch;)

Heres a question, as ive not got fog lights, the fog light switch is redundant? It lights up the fog light on the instrument cluster but the landy doesnt have fog lights, so could i swap the master light switch and the fog light switch, to see if this makes a difference?

You sure you've not got a fog light at the back - on the right, just above the cross-member?

Anyway - testing electrickery - you need a multimeter. It doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg, but you'll be able to suss out what's going on a lot easier if you can measure continuity and voltage.

Simple answer.. no! Or unless ye know exactly what wires do what, and with a bit of jiggery-pokery ye might get it to work.
You do have a fog light (or at least ye should have) on the rear and it only works when yer lights are switched on.
As instantsquid said, get a multimeter ;)
