"Need a good home for a landrover LWB Series 3 (BReg) but low mileage - has been standing for 18 months and would need battery charged or summat but was going fine and almost OK for MOT - will be scrapped if no-one wants it which would be a shame".
The question is - would it be worthwhile getting this for nowt and doing it up??

depends what wants doing, untill you have looked it over, if its petrol mpg is crap, the chassis could be shot only you can decide how far you want to go in putting it on the road, what might look ok and dont take the blokes word who is giving it away that it doesnt need much for an mot could end up costing you a lot of money to put right, best advice is go and look at it then decide,

What a stupid question:doh::doh::doh:

Thanks brnocz - sounds like good solid advice.
Soloby Rob - skelping yourself on the head and telling me it's a stupid question was less than helpful - but thanks for replying at least....

I am a lot nearer Argyll than most of you, and I have space to store it and a trailer big enough to go get it.

See if it is worth going for, and try to find out the location.

I will bring it to NEWMAINS (where A73 and A71 cross) for the cost of the fuel.

As the supplier and the enquirer are both in the area, GO FOR IT!!!!!

How could you lose out?

Make sure you get the reg doc .... and transferred to your name.

Thanks CharlesY - I've sent an email back saying I'd like a look. Thanks also for the trailer offer to Newmains - but if I do this I'll keep it all local. Thanks hughesy - the value of the vehicle is really not as important as the potential costs - but thanks all the same.

as my dad used to say .....

never look a gift horse in the mouth, especially when it's offering you a free land rover

SolobyRob - you're the senior member and in theory at least you must know what you mean by the "it's a stupid question". But I don't. Is it stupid because it's such an obvious bargain and I should rush round there tonight to grab it? Or that even with getting it free I shouldn't touch it with a barge pole?
I don't think you explained yourself too clearly - but maybe you were just having a 'senior' moment....

SolobyRob isnt the one having a senior momment ....

why arent you on the way up there now with your torch ?

Sean - on the basis of the, for the most part, helpful and enthusiatic replies I've received on here I've emailed to say I'd like to go and see it tomorrow...
Cheers mate.

Its just words, and regardless of what you wrote you have the advice you need.

I tried to refurbish a tr4 years ago that I got for fokal, once I really got it apart I realized I was going to have to throw loads of cash at it to get it reasonable.

My advice would be give it a good, good, going over when you get there, take a pad and note down all the things you see, best to take a friend to stop you getting overwhelmed and talking yourself into something impossible or a money magnet. Once you have made your list fokoff to the pub for lunch and sit and evaluate what you have.

Dont fokin spend cash towin somut home to have to scrap it.

Go get it. If it's for nothing and it's not far away how can you lose. It's a no brainer. Take it home, have a good look at it in the cold light of day, chances are it'l be a pile of ****e that isn't worth spending money on. If so either wheel it down to the scrappers and exchange it for some cash, or put it on ebay and some daft **** will actually buy it off you. You can't lose.

And at the very least you get a nice registration document and a set of VIN plates ....
