Hi All,

Hope you are all well.

Joined up to hopefully get some advice on my Defender 110 situation!...

I have a 54 plate Defender 110 crew cab TD5 with 150k on the clock and sits on a 2inch lift coils.

I no longer need the use of the crew cab so looking to sell or swap for a Defender 90 van.

Im not really sure what price I should list it for sale as - so any advice on that would be gratefully received. Chasis and bulk head look in good order...has the usual rust on the door corners and MOT til March 2021.

Looking at the 90s, it appears to me that they are more expensive than the 110s.
So I reckon i'll end up with an older model...is there a preference on the 200 TDIs or 300 TDIs?

Apart from rust/rot on the chassis and bulkhead is there anything from an engine point of view that I need to check?

Any other hints or tips id be very grateful for.

Thanks.

Welcome:).

Pics are good here:).

Why do you want/need a change? The 110 can change its arrangement if it’s the crew cab you don’t like.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I could do with a van (enclosed back bit) and dont need such a big vehicle anymore as the 110...i know i can put an ifor wiliams canopy on the 110 but just think for what I need an actual van will work better. I will also be using it for towing an ifor Williams 2 ton trailer.

cheers

They are both 2.5s I prefer the 300TDI for towing weight but either will do.

Welcome to LandyZone

is there any hints or tips when viewing one to distinguish a 200 tdi good one from a bad one?...im not really mechanically minded so nowt too technical :)

the one im looking at is a 90 on an E reg had a respray few years ago an a wax oil and a re-wire - Mine is on a 54 plate and is just standard but on 2inch lift coils.

The thing I dont get is the price of all these 90s and their age vs mine - for example this one im looking at which is 17/18 years older than mine...is that just how the market is?

Thanks

Fenders are silly money nowadays, I replaced mine with a RR because it was cheaper, would have laughed at that idea few years earlier.
Newer ones are Puma engine from a transit on tinny frame, old ones are the reason they are brand in themselves., like they are becoming collector items now.

Just take your time look through everything, test drive, check chassis for signs of rot or fresh paint covering up something bad. Check the MOT history online on your phone - some can show walkaway symptoms others signs of neglect/care. (Constantly having bald tyres means it was on budget for example) some will be too old for this but will have recent stuff.
Loads of authentic receipts Is good thing.

There are loads of them out there so don’t rush in, trust your gut and walk away if it doesn’t feel 110%.
Plenty of help/buying advice in the 90/110 section, ask the guys n gals in there,
you could have one with warranty if you are that worried. Also AA checks you can have done that sort of thing.
