Hello, I'm Marty

Recently moved to London and would love to Get a defender 90 to get out of the city some time.

Being my first defender and the potential issues with rot/rust that they have, was hoping to gain some advice on what year, is a safe bet? I have watched numerous videos and the consensus is to buy a good one and not have to fix stuff down the line.

Any advise, recommendations would be fantastic, would like to keep budget under 6K but might be able to stretch with some savings.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to LoonyZone :)

The advice would be to not buy a Land Rover ;)

Seriously though, if you do decide to buy one take someone who knows about them with you when you have a look otherwise you might end up in a whole world of pain.

Blimey you are glutton for punishment or you are related to the Duke of Westminister, in that case sir welcome to the Zoo of many wise words. As you're clearly rich buying a Defender these days takes guts due to Madam Ballcruncher knitting at the Scaffold waiting for the next victim. There are many guys girls and gender fluid drivers here from London Europe only to happy to advise the joys and pitfall. Welcome Sir once more.

Hi and welcome!

As said, the key is getting a good one. There are lots around, just take your time. The main issues are the rust in the chassis and bulkhead. Buy on condition not age or mileage. You’ll know when you find one that has been looked afte. Check for evidence of regular servicing, etc. Then invest in proper security as they’re easily nicked.

If you’re living in London, watch out for the LEZ too...
