Hello, I recently got my first Landrover after having a lowered Volkswagen caddy for 2 years I went the opposite way with the ground clearance! I got a 1998 discovery 1 300tdi although I wanted it standard to build myself this one had it all for a good price so ended up with a fairly capable Landrover. First one and I can already see what the fuss is about it’s bloody slow (there is issues I will be asking for help regarding this later) but it’s great fun. And the ease of working on them compared to cramped up German cars is amazing.

I’ve already learned a fair bit on Landrover a from this forum so decided to join to get some help with issues I can’t figure out or find a remedy online.

Thanks for the time

it’s bloody slow

Welcome to the Looneyzone.

Slow can be improved with a pin, ring, pump tune , wastegate rod change....lots to do to make it a little quicker, But it still aint no sports car.

Enjoy it. They are fun, did you check for all the likely rust spots before you paid your money?

Cheers

Thank you I bought it from a fabricator who has welded the whole chassis so it’s really good now spent a good 20 minutes under it trying to find holes before I bought it. I’m handy with a welder so wasn’t to bothered but turned out to be done to a high standard.

It has had a boost pin fitted although it tops out st about 55 in 4th change to 5th you lose the power. Hit a hill and it’s a nightmare a lot of excessive black smoke aswell. Previous owner rebuilt engine I purchased it thinking it was something simple. I’ve tried all filters, cleaned intercooler has silicone hoses so won’t be delaminating. I also marked the boost pump I believe it’s called and tried adjusting it both ways with no change in performance as I know these should be adjusted after a boost pin. I tried turning down the fuel screw but never worked so back to how it was. I think it may be injectors ?
