Hi Mick, welcome to LZ, what is a "hicap 300tdi", just wondering, I have a '98 Disco just plain old 300tdi, not heard of hicap.

Tis a Fender Gazbo, has a larger pick up back on it, "hicap" = high capacity.

Thanks for the enlightenment, I had visions of a 4 litre, bored and stroked 300tdi engine. A mate here is building a 2.8 from a 300tdi, apparently it is a common conversion.

Is a 2.8Ltr "300tdi" what the Military Perentie's have or is that an Isuzu engine? I have heard of a few being modified to have the larger capacity.
EDIT:, just looked they have a 3.9 isuzu engine, lucky people.

Yes, the Isuzu is a great engine in the Landy, our army had a lot of them but gradually phasing them out in favour of the new Mercedes thingies.
The 2.8 version of tdi is a commercial truck version or some such, not sure but there are a few around in Discos and Deefs here, I have enough dramas with the 2.5 version, but it is quite adequate for what we use it for.
