Hi and welcome if your discovery will start from a jumpstart then it sound like a dead battery. try changing the battery and see if this cures the problem. failing that it sounds like a sticking solenoid

Just had a thought you say you have never driven the disco, have you ever had it running? or tried turning the engine over? If not it may be worth checking that the engine isn't seized. By using a socket on the crankshaft pulley or on the alternator pulley and trying to turn the engine over.

THE REASON WE COULD NOT GET THE STARTER TO WORK WAS WE PUT THE RING GEAR DRIVE PLATE ON THE WRONG WAY EASY MISTAKE TO DO BUT THANKS FOR ALL THAT HELPED DEBBIE
