Just a quick hello.

By way of introduction, I am the proud owner of a1969 series 2a 109 2 door landy from Islamabad that I am converting into a camping landy.

I used to own an ex RAF series 3 88 station wagon but sold this as I needed the extra length of the 109 for my camping plans.

I will post pictures of my progress on the camping conversion in the projects forum when I make progress but as is the way with forums, my first post has been to ask for advice about a false starting problem.

If you have not seen this problem but feel you have some advice, please search the series forum for false start problem on 200tdi in a series 2a 109, I appreciate any constructive advice.

OK then, I thought I had run into the one on the right at a muster as my regiment constantly get put up against the Scots, but I can never remember anyone's name.

Here we go then, some 'pre-restoration' pics.
A few small pieces of work done in these pics;
Roof painted (temporary to assist with leak fixing)
Additional seats in the back
Seat belts, front and rear

New head lining and load bay lighting.
I have made a separate thread for my comments on installing this head lining from Lasalle trim but am satisfied with the results.
The cotton twill 'curtains' are fixed with poppers to cleats that are screwed in to the mounting points of the lining and are used to separate the load bay off from the cab and offer me some privacy when I am sleeping in the back.

Have not been online for a while so I thought I would give a few updates.
My 1969 series 2a 109 with a 20tdi engine has had a few bumps but is now functioning well and even passed it's second MOTS with no work to do.
1. Starting faults fixed with comprehensive rewire using a custom made loom. Not a task for the feint hearted as it took 3 months but worthwhile replacing the nasty mix of 1990s engine electrics and 1960s chassis wiring.
2. During rewire, added a twin battery and monitoring system with engine battery in the engine bay on a battery tray I fabricated. Leisure and internal electics on original battery under passengers seat.
3. Sound lining to bonnet (not that effective and needed modifying as glue failed to hold panels in place where the foil lining started to short on my new battery location.
4. New LaSalle head lining fitted to reduce condensation inside during camping ( I sleep in the back). Good instalation and nice insulation supplied with headlining. However, discovered a leak or two in the roof that feed water down the roof channels but captain tolleys creeping cracking cure resolved the problem.
5. After a catastrophic gear box failure (broken ley shaft) resulted in the need for a new gearbox, I bit the bullet and ordered the transfer box upgrade kit from Ashcroft Transmissions. New gearbox is an all synchro 4 speed from a series 3, rebuilt by specialist. (My old gearbox was given up in exchange as it was a mess)
Existing casing for transfer box modified to take new gears (also by specialist) involved drilling new holes in casing to mount ley shaft further out to take taller gears.
Expensive but we'll worthwhile as I have taken over 1000rpm off my engine speed at a causing speed of 60mph, topiping out at 75mph (scary on my knackered suspension and loose steering)
200tdi easily has enough power as I can maintain 60mph up the steepest hills in 4th gear and while 1st high ratio is now a similar ratio to where 2nd used to be, pull aways need revs but are as good as any modern cars.
Fuel economy is good, averaging 35mpg and low ratio is entirely unaffected. (speedo also works fine)
A very expensive exercise but transforms the usability in modern road conditions.
6. Still working on the camping conversions with bed modifications to make it more stable but financial constraints have meant that the gas installations of cooker and air heater are on hold.
