    Hi there,
I have been recently been introduced to this forum and have been so inspired by the great advice and experience I have seen here, in the few threads I have read, that I have decided to start doing the repairs on my TD4 myself as well.

I have the much maligned 2004 Freelander TD4 2.0 but it has served us well with just short of 300,000kms on the clock with only a turbo and injector rebuild and a VCU replacement as major mechanical issues.
Ive had the occasional sensor issue or hose replacement etc. but so have my other cars so I cant complain, especially in that we have never been left stranded on the side of the road. (We have been to some pretty interesting and remote places with it including, Kruger park, Bakgatla in Pilansburg, Border of Botswana, and a few other trips of over 2400kms round trip each)

I am now wanting to learn about its inner workings and be able to repair and maintian it myself and so will hopefully be able to learn a lot more form this forum and the great people here.

    Kind Regards
    Rory

Welcome to the BEST Landy forum. In the last couple of weeks I have received EXCELLENT advice from highly knowledgeable and selfless people...with warped sense of humour in most cases too!

Hi Jon Dor, I couldt agree more, despite my limited experience in just reading the forums and seeing the interaction and help offered.
I am very happy to be here. thank everyone for the warm welcome.
I hope one day to be knowledgable enough to be able to the giver and not only the receiver here :) and a warped sense of humor is a prerequisite to be a landy owner isnt it :)

You sound like the real deal. If you intend to fix your own with help off the people here you won’t regret it, but it may well consume you. Pics will help and draw in much needed attention got you. And your intro only counts if you have a pic of your Landy in it
    Welcome to the fold :)

Hi RangeRoller, thanks for the welcome and the advice... I'll upload a pic asap.

I have already removed the engine covers, and the intercooler piping and went and got a set of Torx sockets and other needed tools to remove the manifold tomorrow (got the brackets and wiring harness along with the EGR Solenoid on order) ....so I think I have already been bitten by the bug :)

Updated intro post on the way ;)

You will need quality basic tools such as socket types etc, they will pay for themselves in no time with the labour costs you can easily avoid

Thanks for the advice, I actually went and bought a nice 187 piece toolbox and then some extras like torx sockets and a torque wrench. I got a decent MacAfric set.

If there are any other special tools I'd need, I'd love to know about them, so I can start hunting for them. I'm planning on buying a tool or so every month.

I’m not sure what FL specific tools are worth having, best ask in FL section ;)

Ah yes, apologies. I'll do so.
In the meantime, I will get along with the tools at hand.
    Have a great day all.

No need for apologise, just saying you will get better help there than I can offer you. If there is something P38 you need I am here
