Hi there :)

I am a newbie to this forum, and new to LR's (well kinda - I used to work for a insurance company and went to many many shows).
I have previously owned a Isuzu Trooper as a 4X4 but am mainly a VW man (Beetles and campers).

With my family extending, I decided it was time to get a 7 seater, and the only vehicle that would suffice for me is a Disco. I have always wanted to go proper green laning and off roading - so it works out well for us.

I am curtrently on the search for a Disco, and have found two posibiles (a early 200TDi and a late 300TDi) but as yet neither have become part of my stable.

I apologise now for the lack of terminology you guys use for parts, but I am sure I will get there eventually.

Greetings fellow yorkshire-ling

if your after many seats have you ever considered other than a disco, like a 110 or even 130 defender or even a series of the same wheel base?

Looking for a 200-300TDI power plant is a good bet. Me and some friends agree that they are bullet proof engines, very reliable if looked after. some may dis-agree and say they are no more than a glorified tractor engine!

200-300TDI conversions into series bases are a popular mod. Some Defender models are already fitted with a 200 or 300TDI, so don't just stick to the disco option if your looking for a bus! consider the series and defender alternatives.

Tips I've picked up when looking for 200-300TDI's:
  • check for a wading plug - if its been off-roading without one, timing belt is FUBAR'd
  • regular service - if there is a paper trail of service parts/work for it, then it has been looked after
  • noticable turbo whistle - turbo on way out, louder the worse (mine whistles but only if your trying to hear it)
  • black smoke - could mean injector pumps wound up...check forum for other possibilties

anyway, I'm sure somebody will confirm or dispute this, but that's all I've learnt from the sages on this forum.

all the best to y's and happy hunting.

Oh god yes, just remembered "powered by fairy dust"

Got to have one of those for the front as well as the back :D:D:D
