Hey folks,
I stumbled across your canny little forum last Xmas actually, but was a lurker as I didn't own a Landrover at the time.
Anyhow the time came to register a few weeks ago when I slipped a disc in my back and found my last car wholly unsuitable (Honda Civic Type R EP3) as I got stuck in it a few times with my lack of back strength, I sold it with teary eyes!!!
Then I was in the market for something that didnt take much effort to get in and out of, I had a BMW 118d a while back and like how frugal the diesel engines were, so I plumped for the Freelander TD4 SE 2005.
I test drove a few, all had apparent VCU problems, as did the one I bought, but this one was real clean and tidy, impeccable in every way except the VCU. I used this fault to my advantage, and in buying privately, I knocked £800 off the asking price.
I spoke with my cousin who is a 4x4 mech and used the info on here to remove the full prop and VCU, I also followed people's opinion of Bell Engineering, and have been in touch with them for a new/recon VCU, which in fact, I should be getting this week, as when I spoke to them they were closing for Xmas and said they'd call me when they're sorted, Top Bloke!!!
I've removed the standard Head unit, and fitted my JVC DVD from the type R as it has Bluetooth, which comes in handy for hands free, and a sidelight bulb blew so I bought a set of LED ones off fleabay, which I think look ok, not 100% in them yet. What do yous think?
I've bought one of them rubber nudge bars off fleabay also, for thirty quid, which I thought couldn't be sniffed at and a brand new set of tear drop side steps, which were collected today (thanks parcel2go for my free £10 Xmas present ;-)), bought the steps for the very pricey sum of £66. They should help me even more getting in and out of the car.
That's it really, I'm glad I found yous, as I've saved money already, and I love the car too, but the near side rear brake keeps seizing when wet, so I'll be dropping that off and fitting new very soon indeed.
Sorry I also bought a freelander Haynes, listed in magazines on fleabay for £3.78, free postage, bargain.
That's it.
All the best peeps
Keep it real ;-)
