Picking up my Discovery2 TD5 in 4 days time and it's a double first ie. first diesel and first Land Rover. Wanted one for ages but couldn't get my head around the amount of people who predicted doom and gloom re reliability before realising that most of them had never even owned one!

Hopefully I've done my homework and it's a good one (previous owner has a scarily expensive pile of receipts) and I'm looking forward to keeping it that way and possibly doing a few 'improvement' tweeks with help and advice on here.

Don't listen to the doom and gloom merchants, they are just jealous!
You just enjoy!:)

Welcome I had bought a bad un. If I were to get another it wouldn't be an auto. The td5 is not well suited to the autobox. Check thoroughly for pressured up hoses and hissing from expansion cap.

Keep servicing it and keep an eye on everything that can wear, loosen or rust and you'll head off a lot of problems before they start.

Thanks all.

This one ticked 'all' the boxes. Pretty sure it's been waxoiled annually from new and serviced by same dealer, manual, ACE completely overhauled and a host of other work including a new clutch. It was bought from a rural location but it's immaculate throughout and rules out the usual hauling sheep/horses around fields hard life scenario. The fact that the owner also has an old Defender, which he keeps as a hobby was just another tick!

First thoughts on a short test drive were that :-
a) Performance is a bit different to the X1 I normally drive at work and my Father in Law's Freelander2. It is a TD5 after all !
b) My Wife's Mini Cooper was probably not the best car to jump straight into the Disco from!
c) You actually have to steer it all the time!
d) It felt like it could get up or down anything without breaking sweat.
e) I liked it........................... a lot :)

Can't wait to pick it up next week.
