Hello, I am a Honduras ex-pat living in Costa Rica for the last 20+ years now.
I have lately considering starting a restoration project since have plenty spare time, and being Land Rover an iconic car in this tropical country (as it is aroung the world), where a lot LR still over the road and working in the fields and farms, meaning that I could source spares and get advise from owners, dealers and shops.
It happens that I am dealing with the owner to buy a 1978 series III, SWB hard top, 2.5L, l4 diesel engine which engine series I cant find in internet as being an original Land Rover engine. Engine number on chassis frame matched the one in the title, which declares its a 2.5L diesel engine number E4677xxxx. I suspect was originally sourced from other maker. Already called current LR local dealer, spare dealers and other folks, but no one seems be in position to help me out. Also searched some threads in this forum and others in internet (Glencoyne Engineering, ie) with no results.
Could any of you decode this for me?
