Hi all. Had my Freelander TD4 for 7 yearts now, and do less than 1k miles a year in it, but it's a great second car which I enjoy driving and tinkering with. I noticed the coolant was pretty dark and quite scummy so did a full flush out today, and will probably do another tomorrow (and stick some anti-freeze in once it is running clean) as it is still a bit orange-tinted after an initial run. The oil filler cap is perfectly clean so I don't think there is a head gasket issue, but should I be concerned ? What else could be amiss?

I wouldn't worry about mucky coolant as much as I would worry about missing coolant. It should be good after a couple of flushes.

Thanks guys, I did notice some cracking on the reservoir when I cleaned it out yesterday, so have replaced this today, drained the system and filled up with OAT anti-freeze. Hopefully all is well. There had been some leakage, actually, which is what got me looking over the system, but I managed to get another quarter-turn on the reservoir feed bush on the recently fitted thermostat, and this seems to have sorted it.
